1.1The home position

Your index fingers rest on the two keys with tactile bumps (the small raised bars), the other fingers next to them on the same row, thumbs on Space. Each key is struck with the finger of its colour, then the hand always comes back to this position.

★ from 90% accuracy · ★★ from 94% accuracy · ★★★ from 97% and 8 WPM. One star is enough to pass the lesson.

Posture

Back straight and supported, feet flat, forearms horizontal. The wrists float above the keyboard while typing: resting them forces the fingers to stretch instead of keeping the hand in place.

The home position

Eight fingers on the middle row, the index fingers on the two keys with tactile bumps, which can be found without looking. The thumbs rest on Space. After each keystroke, the finger comes back here.

One finger, one column

Each finger is in charge of one column of keys (the colours of the keyboard below), always the same one. Among fast typists, this matters more for speed than the number of fingers used.

Eyes on the screen

Neither the hands nor the on-screen keyboard: the eyes stay on the text. The guide is there for the first lessons, then it fades out. A guide that is always there creates dependency; removing it gradually fixes the movements.

Accuracy first

A mistake costs far more than slowness: the fastest typists are also the ones who make the fewest mistakes. A lesson is passed from 90% accuracy, whatever the speed; speed comes with consistency.

Little and often

15 to 30 minutes a day beat two hours at the weekend: for the same total time, short sessions spread out make you learn faster.

100%

A mistake holds the cursor until the right key: no need to delete. Esc to restart
